One afternoon during our mission trip, our team visited a set of apartment buildings. We decided to split up into groups, each taking a different floor so we could meet and pray with as many people as possible.

On my floor, I met a woman named Kenya and her husband. Kenya was about five months pregnant, and from the moment we started talking, I could sense that God had something special planned for this encounter.

I introduced myself and told her that we were missionaries from the United States. I said, “God sent us here today just so we could meet you—and tell you that He loves you.” As soon as I said those words, tears began to stream down her face. She told us that when she was a little girl, she had been a victim of sex trafficking, and a missionary had rescued her. Now, years later, God had once again sent a missionary to her door—this time to remind her that He still sees her, loves her, and has not forgotten her.

As we began to pray together, it felt as if the love of God was seeping through the cracks of that building. The presence of the Holy Spirit filled the room, wrapping around us like a warm embrace. In that moment, I saw in the Spirit a hedge of protection surrounding Kenya, her husband, and their unborn baby.

I felt the Lord saying to them, “Trust Me in every part of your life, and I will provide everything you need.”

I still think of Kenya often and continue to pray for her. Her story reminds me that sometimes all we need is to feel the love of God—to be reminded that He is near, that He will never leave us, and that He will never forsake us.

God shows up for each of us in unique and powerful ways—just as He did for Kenya that day.
